Presenter: Dr. Prasad S. Kodukula, PhD, PMP, PgMP

 Presentation Abstract:

Many of us are “accidental” project managers. Project management may not be the profession we dreamed of as we were growing up. Most likely we stumbled into it. You may have been asked to manage and lead projects in your organization because you have shown superior technical skills. Ironically the skill that got you here is not what will take you where you need to go in the new position.

Now you are not “doing” project work per se any more but you are “leading” it. You have no authority over your team members but yet are held responsible for their work. Your team is spread across the globe. You are dealing with multiple stakeholders with conflicting needs and expectations. Your clients want their deliverables faster, cheaper, and better. The challenges are becoming increasingly daunting. This presentation will walk you through the project leadership journey. It focuses on the skills you must master for this journey. It illuminates the transformation from a technical specialist to an effective leader.

 You will learn:

 * Challenges faced by technical people in project management positions.

* Changes you need to make in transitioning from a technical role into project management and leadership.

* Differences between management and leadership.

* Four key leadership styles critical to project management.
